There has been lots of North of Sixty° activity this past month! Tapestry kits were shipped off to participating schools in five countries: Finland, Russia, Norway, the USA, and Canada. The kits include all the tools and technology schools will need to capture, edit, and share their North of Sixty° video stories. To date, the kits have reached all locations except Murmansk in Russia. We're hoping to hear from Murmansk soon that their kit is in hand.
In addition, the team has been busy organizing gear for the April expedition to Baffin Island in Canada. There is lots of gear and lots of planning needed for this trip, which will take the team into some truly stunning and very remote wilderness. Expedition leader Aaron Doering has emphasized that safety is of utmost importance to the team, so we'll be doing some training runs with our gear on the ice right here in Minnesota later this month — stay tuned for updates.
In the meantime, Matti and Jeni have been excitedly preparing for their trip to Alaska — they leave tomorrow! Their journey will include time in Kotzebue and Noatak in the Northwest Arctic Borough, and in Kodiak and Karluk on Kodiak Island. They'll be visiting schools, providing professional development, exploring the local communities, and meeting with community members. They'll also be gathering media and information about the history, culture, languages, and natural environment of the different communities, and will share it all right here online. Check back daily to read stories and view videos and photos from their travels.
