Field Report

We have much exciting news to share as the countdown to the Baffin Island expedition steadily continues — less than a month to go! First, we want to welcome videographer Matthew Whalen to the team. Matthew will be filming this adventure learning expedition to capture the entire process and journey. He is a perfect fit with our team and we are more than happy to have him onboard!

Next, we want to thank Canada Goose for their sponsorship of this expedition. Canada Goose has been manufacturing the highest-quality extreme weather outerwear for more than fifty years. We are fortunate to be able to wear their parkas, hats, gloves, and vests on this trip, and know we'll be prepared for whatever mother nature throws at us. We encourage everyone to support their products and thank Canada Goose sincerely for their sponsorship! Thanks again also to Snowsled pulks and Hilleberg tents for their support. We will be more than prepared for the conditions we'll encounter in the Arctic with some of the best gear out there.

This week we organized all this gear, little and big, and packed up our pulks in preparation for an overnight adventure to test out all our equipment in the elements and run through our routines for when we're in the Arctic. We walked through everything from tent setup to melting drinking water to preparing food and packing and hauling the pulks aross backcountry terrain. We also enjoyed time together as a team, talking through the route we'll travel, the communities we'll visit, and the goals of both the expedition and the North of Sixty project as a whole. This is going to be one incredible journey!

We hope you'll join us on March 28 from 2:00 to 4:00pm as we celebrate a kickoff to the expedition at McNamara Alumni Center on the University of Minnesota campus. Everyone is invited to come and hear the special guest speakers, try on and test out gear and tech, meet the team, and learn more about the expedition route and goals. We'll also have free food and be giving away some iPad Minis! Read more about the kickoff event and RSVP here. Please spread the word!
